Serendipity and Ayahuasca: The Magic of What is Meant to Be

At Maravilha Retreat in Búzios, Brazil, we’ve witnessed something beautiful time and again: serendipity unfolding within our ayahuasca ceremonies.

When people gather to heal, transform, and reconnect with their deepest truths, the universe seems to orchestrate meetings and experiences beyond what we could ever plan.

One young woman came to us seeking closure for the grief she carried after losing her brother in a traffic accident. During that retreat, a young man from India arrived unexpectedly. The two bonded immediately. In her words, “It felt as if my brother sent him to me.” Their connection was profound, like siblings reunited on a soul level. Both received exactly what they needed – comfort, understanding, and the healing power of knowing they are not alone.

Another time, we hosted a men’s retreat and only four men signed up. At first, we were concerned about the small group. But it turned out to be the perfect number. Their personalities complemented each other effortlessly, creating a safe, intimate space for deep sharing, vulnerability, and transformation. They left as brothers.

We’ve seen this pattern over and over. A man from Arizona once arrived anxious for his first ceremony, worried he’d be alone. Then, unexpectedly, another American living in Florianópolis joined. They were similar in age and temperament and quickly formed a strong friendship, supporting each other through their challenging and beautiful journeys.

Just this week, a family from the UK arrived, and at the last minute, a young couple from Belgium joined. The energies merged seamlessly, creating a retreat that felt divinely orchestrated.

What is Serendipity?

Serendipity is often described as “fortunate accidents.” In the context of ayahuasca ceremonies, I believe it is something deeper: the universe aligning experiences and people so that everyone receives exactly what their soul seeks.

In these sacred spaces, we learn that nothing is random. Every meeting, every conversation, every tear shed, and every moment of laughter is part of a greater tapestry of healing and remembrance.
